Shouldn't I - that is the question.
Okay I bought new bike shoes. I've been having toe numbness issues forever, but basically resolved myself to the fact that I will always have numb toes - then I woke up one day and told myself - No - why should I suffer, maybe I just need different shoes or a different size. I haven't been complaining about this because well... I've been complaining about a lot of other stuff. Anywho...
During my trip to Albuquerque in March I was able to try on a few pair, then we took a quick trip to Midland and I was able to try on some more. I debated over which pair for a while, then decided to take the plunge and buy a pair. Happy Mother's Day!
They arrived today. Now then I know I should wait until after the race this weekend before I start using them, so I have plenty of time to tweak and get the cleats in the right position, the shoes to the right tightness, etc. But I'm so tempted now that I have them in hand, to go for it. I only have one indoor session on the bike planned for this week, but is that really enough to get all the tweaking done in time. Probably not. From recent experience of trying new gear/components for the first time during a race and not being successful...the practical side of me is saying, just one more race... but the toes are begging.
I know what your going to say. Just buy another pair of cleats and take both pairs of shoes. yeah well I thought of that too late, and I live in the land of nowhere, so I can't just run down to my local bike shop and buy and pair. Especially since my local bike shop that opened last fall is closed all the time because I think the guy who runs it has a drug problem...
I know, I know just wait, but should I or shouldn't I?

You're cutting it close, but you can test them on your indoor bike ride and give them another whirl Saturday before we head out - maybe for 30mins.
and for what it's worth - i think i'm getting new goggles this week because mine have been leaking and the band looks like it is going to break...i'm cutting it close too...
Hmm. This is a pros/cons issue. Pros: you could possible have a great race without the hot foot issue. Cons: You could possibly have a sucky race with painful feet. If you decide to go for it, make sure that the time you spend spinning includes jumping on the pedals; there are a couple of rollers at JB. (For what it's worth, I've used shoes for the first time at a sprint. Only at a sprint. I'd never do it for anything longer.)
Hey, Sus: I'm at work and don't have your email. Can you email me?
